Unwarranted Censorship at TOC

The following text were taken from a TOC posting titled SM Goh's Misdirected Attack On The Press:
"Source confidentiality is not inaccuracy. It is one tool journalists use to
obtain information that may be of public interest ... Source confidentiality does not mean a complete lack of journalistic accountability ... Contrary to criticism, such journalism needs to be encouraged. ... Reporters should not be bullied into shying away from obtaining sensitive quotes like these, and forced to write rosy reports about the PAP. " - Remy Choo Zheng Xi
I couldn't agree more with Remy's point that sometimes, inforamtion from unnamed sources are the only means to get access to information that is so guarded. So I thought i would test just how far he believed in what he preached. My comment, or question, was simply how would he feel when the wayangparty does an expose on him with unnamed sources, can he claim it is inaccurate?

I brought this up because he has denied allegations before only to be flatly proven otherwise.

My moderated comment can be seen below. Notice how my first comment on how he would react to a report on him (hypothetically crafted by wayangparty by unnamed sources) was censored while a comment (unverified and unsubstantiated) on SM Goh was allowed to pass.

If hypothetical comments without any allegations are censored, who knows what other leaks are buried?

  1. You created a blog just to diss Remy?

  2. Wayangparty is a banned word. If you post that word in any comment thread on TOC, you will find your comment fall under automatic moderation.

Plus, the fact that created a blog to diss Remy only shows the prominence of TOC. There are other websites that also promote TOC, such theonlineshitizen.wordpress.com and theonlinecorpitiam.com.

  3. Anyway, you have completely mis-interpreted the meaning of freedom on the internet. You are just as free to post any comment you want, just as the website owner is just as free to you to censor you. However, nobody is stopping you to setup a website to post whatever you want. That is the meaning of freedom on the internet.

  4. Ganga - I created this blog to serve as an archive of unwarranted censorship of views.

  5. Donaldson Tan - Hi, i know you are a regular at TOC and i understand your defence if it.

Perhaps if there was a real reason to censor my post i would accept. but clearly as documented by me, my comments were very reasonable considering the context of the article by Remy.

How many times as TOC criticised the msm for censoring reasonable forum letter submissions while accepting those that kiss the ass of the PAP. The same is happening in TOC.

People who keep praising toc get their comments through unmoderated but once you criticise them you are censored.

  6. Yeah TOC has been in the habit of censoring posts that do not show them in a flattering light. I have posted before that they tend to spin things to make it sound worse than it is.
